Xishuangbanna: Tropisch China met Zuidoost-Aziatische Flair

Writer: inspirasianinspirasian

Xishuangbanna is just one of three names for Yunnan’s southern most prefecture–peopled and named by the Dai. Which ever you hear, it will lead you to the same prefecture, to the jungles south of the southern clouds that hug the Mekong as it makes its way out of the mountains. Those same mountains and jungles that kept the region isolated over the centuries have become a destination unto themselves. Yet, their spectaculars cenery and welcoming people are still relatively undiscovered by South East Asia’s legions of travelers.

Essential Info

When to Go: The best time to visit Xishuangbanna is from November to April. This is the dry season, with pleasant temperatures between 20-28C, little rain and clear skies. It is the perfect time to explore the tea plantations, tropical forests and colorful Dai villages. Avoid the rainy season from May to October, when it can be very hot and humid, with tropical showers making the roads muddy.

Recommended Visiting Time: typically lasts 3 to 5 days, depending on your interests.
