Festive on the Tibetan Plateau
Early in the morning we meet 'Tibetan Sister', dark clouds above us, together we drive on a narrow road in an open valley. Then we park the car, and have to walk the last part to the festival site through the rolling landscape. The terrain is irregular, it's raining, but we're curious where we're walking to and what the festival would be like. We see others in local clothes walking in the same direction. Then we see in the distance that people are busy with the construction, a waiting crowd, men with horses and reciting monks. What a special scene; we are watched by the tough local men, and we see the activities. Some are curious where we come from.
Then there is the signal that the festival begins; the crowd walks around the Lhatso, say prayers, and doing rituals of offering to the Mountain God. Lungta's and baijiu are thrown into the air, as sacrifices for the Mountain God to ask for a good harvest. Horses contribute to the sacrifice to the Mountain God, because the Mountain God is fond of horses, cattle and sheep. Some people walk all the way up, and doing the larger kora. It's great to see and experience everything, sometimes I got a baijio shower all over me. In the meantime the rain has stopped, and we decide to picnic a little lower on the grasslands. 'Tibetan Sister' has prepared various delicacies, what we all enjoy.
