Experience Three Mask Dance Festivals in Kham of Western Sichuan [14-Days]
This is a special festival tour, we will experience the mask dance (Cham) festival of three monasteries in Tibetan area Kham of western Sichuan. The most natural sceneries and cultural elements of Tibetan area Kham are planned in program.
Monlam Festival Tour [8-10-Days]
Monlam, also known as a prayer meeting, is an extremely grand holyday in Tibetan area during the Spring Festival. Initially, back to 1409, Tsongkhapa – founder of Gelug Sect – organized a prayer meeting at Jokhang Temple. Thousands of monks gathered together for the praying and sutra-debate here. As the days go by, the followers from all directions are in an endless stream to join in the spectacular pageant "Monlam Nowadays” will offer you a rare opportunity to participate in the splendid celebration with the numerous followers and the pilgrims, and experience the various sorts of rituals performed at different temples in East Tibetan cultural center Amdo and Gansu Province. The highlight of the ceremony is thangka exposure. Ensuing along the hill, the marvelous jumbo thangka is 90 feet by 60 feet, showing to pray to the Buddha for blessings. All Kinds of vivid and vigorous mask dances, pray ceremonies and jewelry show will run through the whole Losar (Tibetan New Year, Monlam Festival) for two weeks.
Discover Litang during Nomads Festival [9-Days]
On this trip, we will enjoy the leisure life in Chengdu firstly. Then we will departure to Tibetan Area Kham in west Sichuan – the Jiaju Tibetan Village in Danba, where Jiarong Tibetans live. Afterwards go to Tagong, which is “the Buddha's favorite place” and is also reputed as “Little Lhasa”. Following Khampa Tibetan, we turn the prayer wheel of Tagong Monastery and listen to their sounds of reading in the Gyergo Nunnery. Walk onto the hillside by the Muya Golden Pagoda and wait for the sunrise and sunset of Holy Mountain Yala. Afterwards drive to Litang which is known as "world highland city" with an altitude of 4.014 m above sea level. Litang is the homeland of 7th Dalai Lama, and it has always been the cultural center of Kham.
Shaman Festival [6-Days]
Shaman Festival will be held in the Summer period. It has lasted for about 400-500 years and full of magic and joy. During the festival, villagers are put up their best cloth. They gather together at the Temple, singing and dancing. Local people expect to worship the Mountain God to looking forward to a harvest, peaceful and prosperity of life and well-being. Of all the activities of the festival, the most amazing practices of the ritual are the Kou-Qian (Mouth Piercing), Bei-Qian (Back Piercing) and Kai-shan (Cut forehead with knife). *This festival lasts 10 days, you are welcome to contact us for customized beginning date.
